Treatment for Methamphetamine Dependence

At PROMETA Center® Inc. medical practices, we believe that methamphetamine dependence is a disease, and that an integrated treatment approach combining pharmacological and psychosocial elements offers the best chance for sustained recovery. Physicians practicing with PROMETA Center medical practices use a variety of treatment methods for methamphetamine dependence, and our experienced staff assists each patient with a customized Continuing Care program.

The Prometa Treatment Program for Methamphetamine Dependence

The PROMETA® Treatment Program for methamphetamine dependence is designed to alleviate the physiological, nutritional, and psychological aspects of methamphetamine addiction. PROMETA is a physician-based treatment method that addresses a wide spectrum of needs and can be administered on an outpatient basis. The treatment method includes prescription medications and nutritional supplements, prescribed and supervised by your PROMETA Center physician, coupled with an individualized psychological treatment plan.

  • Treatment begins with an initial assessment, which will include a comprehensive medical and psychological evaluation, as well as appropriate urine and blood analyses. A referring doctor may also determine an individual's readiness for treatment with the PROMETA Treatment Program.
  •  After medical clearance has been completed, treatment with the PROMETATreatment Program can begin. Treatment typically starts with prescription medications and nutrients over a period of 3 consecutive days, followed by 2 additional treatments approximately 3 weeks later. The exact length of treatment is based on many factors, and is up to the discretion of the treating physician.
  •  Unlike many residential-type treatment programs, which often require patients to remain in a center for a month or longer, treatment with PROMETA is initiated over just a 3-day outpatient visit. After that, prescription medications and nutritional supplements are typically taken at home for a period of one month.
  • An essential part of the PROMETATreatment Program involves a comprehensive Continuing Care plan. Our clinical team will work with you to find the plan that is best for you.

Continuing Care
Dependence is a complex disease, and the best outcomes are believed to derive from a combination of pharmacological treatment and Continuing Care.
